Some additional expenses should be borne in mind for families sending a child to Doane Academy. These include:
Uniforms
Uniforms are required of all students, from pre-K to Grade 12. Specific information on the requirements and estimated costs are available in the Admission Office. Flynn and O’Hara of Philadelphia is our exclusive supplier; their web site is www.flynnohara.com.
Transportation to Doane Academy
Most students are transported by parents, by local school district busses, or by car pools. The School contracts its own busses for areas where there is significant demand and no school district bussing option. The fee is adjusted according to the number of students and the cost of the bussing contract.
The fee for 2007-2008 round trip was $2492, of which $826 reimbursed by the state. Reimbursement is available only to parents who have submitted the appropriate forms before the start of school. Contact Alice McGee.
Interim excursions and overnight trips
Students in grades 3 through 12 participate in a content immersion or outdoor skills / leadership training experience for 2-3 days during the school year. Admission and transportation expenses are billed separately and vary from grade to grade and year to year.
Costs for extended trips, within or outside of the country, are paid directly to travel agencies.
Lunches, snacks, special dinners
Hot lunch and salad lunch options are provided at a cost per day of $3.85 for Lower school and $4.00 for Upper School on a weekly or monthly basis. Special occasion dinners such as the traditional Christmas Mystery Dinner, are included in the Activity/Book Fee and are supported by gifts from alumni and parents. Healthy snacks are sold in the dining hall during Upper School morning break.
Extended Day Program”
We offer a faculty-supervised extended day program for Lower School students each weekday, from 7:00 to 8:15 a.m. and from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Parents may enroll their children for the full year or for the semester. The program is not available on days when the School is not in session or when there is a scheduled noon dismissal.
The weekly fee for the afternoon extended day program is $60. Daily rates are billed at $15 per day for afternoons. The weekly fee for morning extended day is $15. There is no charge for an extended day when parents are meeting with teachers or participating in a parent organization activity.
