HHC AND A CO 1-150TH AIR ASSAULT HELICOPTER BATTALION TO PRESENT 3RD AND 4TH GRADE STUDENTS WITH AMERICAN FLAG submitted by Ann Kimball and Stacy Anderson
This past September, Doane Academy 3rd and 4th graders wrote letters of support to troops in Iraq. The troops appreciated the letters so much, they flew an American flag for our students during one of their combat missions. The picture to the right shows (from left to right) Staff Sergeant (SSG) Carl Zendrosky, Private First Class (PFC) Samantha Conover and Specialist (SPC) Tim Lynch of the 150th Attach Helicopter Battalion holding a banner with details of the mission during which our flag was flown. The banner reads:
“This is to attest that the accompanying United States flag was carried on a combat mission over Iraq in a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter on the 30th of October 2009. This flag is presented on behalf of members of the HHC and A Co 1-150th Air Assault Helicopter Battalion supporting America’s war on terrorism during Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-11, while deployed to FOB Delta in AL Kut, Iraq.”
The banner and American flag will be presented to the school personally in January by one of the returning airmen. The HHC and A Co 1-150th Air Assault Helicopter Battalion is a New Jersey National Guard unit, so the troops are all from New Jersey. A special relationship has formed between our students and the battalion, as our students have sort of "adopted" them. The students plan on sending the battalion more cards, and will be doing a community service project for them for the upcoming holidays.
