DR. PARADIS CONTRIBUTES TO DOCUMENTARY FILM TO PREMIER AT DOANE

On Friday, November 6, 2009 Doane Academy held the New Jersey premier of the documentary, Black Soldiers in Blue: The Story of Camp William Penn.  The film is a documentary on Camp William Penn, the first Federal training ground for black troops during the Civil War. Directed by Warren Bass and produced by Zilan Munas; Black Soldiers in Blue tells the story of the recruitment of black volunteers, their training, their hardships, their heroism and their enormous contribution to Union victory. The filmmakers were present along with Civil War historian Paradis and members of the U.S.C.T. 3rd Regiment Re-enactors were the film screening.

Our very own Dr. James Paradis, Doane Academy History teacher and adjunct professor of History at Acardia University contributed to film.  Dr. Paradis has also written books on the Civil War including Strike The Blow For Freedom: The 6th United States Colored Infantry In The Civil War and African Americans and the Gettysburg Campaign.
